A New Farm for the Mercians 19th April 2026

The weather was lovely and spirits were good when around 40 detectorists turned up eagerly and optimistically to this new farm, following on from the previous dig where an incredible number of finds came up, this was a bit of a reality check and a return to normal. Thanks for all your hard work admin team, and to Debbie for the cake which kept people going.

Some lovely finds were unearthed, amidst all the buttons, copper coins and yet unidentified pieces, including a crotal bell, thimble, some lovely tokens, watch winders, a 'Jews Harp' and a hammered. There were three finds that stood out and were nominated for Find of the Day. After voting,

In third place was Mac's lovely 1884 shilling in beautiful condition

In second place was John's super fibula with its exquisite decoration

But in first place  - by just one vote - was Chris' wonderful Republic Denarius. Congratulations Chris!
