We were delighted to get back to this popular location as we’d been there during the spell of the heatwaves and the ground had been so solid we couldn’t dig many of the signals. After some significant rain and in much cooler weather, we returned optimistically. Sadly, the optimism wasn’t entirely rewarded and we were a little baffled by the relatively modest finds, given the expectation due to the site and the previous visit’s signals. Perhaps the wet weather had affected the signals or the finds were deeper, we speculated.

There were finds, though, a number of cut quarters and halves - among them Alastair’s first ever hammered:

Lee dug up his second - possibly gold - watch of the season

Rob’s Fibula

And Guy’s nice bar pin

But the uncontested winner of Find for the Day was Darrell’s  hammered coin. Congratulations Darrell!
