We were all keen to return to this new farm for a second time on new fields for two reasons. Firstly because it was our Christmas dig and we all wanted to join in the festive fun and have the chance to wish each other a Happy Christmas. Secondly, because we had such a good dig at the farm on our first visit. It was a lovely day, the weather was kind and the festive snacks and raffle were greatly appreciated. It was a good turnout and we were in good spirits as we set out over the substantial acreage at our disposal.
There were a fair few finds - among them, buckles, buttons and coins, including hammered and silver coins, a silver cross and a few items yet to be identified. When it came to Find of the Day, though, there two stand out finds that stole the show! After the vote, in second place it was Neil’s beautiful medieval strap end

With an overwhelming majority, however, in first place was Alex’s remarkable Saxon coin. Congratulations Alex!
