Herefordshire border 4th October 2026

A good crowd of Mercians made their way to this new farm in the southern area of our region. The weather was good and the digging easy. As always, it was great to be out together: MMDC is often hailed as ‘the best club’ by its members and this is a joy that some newer members from our lengthy waiting list have had the chance to experience. 

We set out optimistically and everyone found something, be it buttons and coppers, mystery objects yet to be identified (if ever) and some found some lovely and interesting finds.

There were five nominations for Find of the Day, and after the poll,

 in joint fourth place was: 

Dave’s small soldier

And Guy’s ring

In joint third place

Leon’s brooch

And Braun’s Jetton 

But in first place, by a significant margin, was Amanda’s lovely seal. Congratulations Amanda!
