This was a dig on a smaller parcel of land, so restricted to 30 detectorists. Encompassing part of a Roman road, it promised much and, for some, didn’t disappoint. The weather was great as it was overcast after so many scorching days, making the day pleasantly warm without the danger of getting sunburnt. The digging was pretty good, given how baked the earth had been. There were a variety of interesting finds and even for those who didn’t take away a real treasure, it was a pleasant day and worthwhile dig in great company.
For one member, it was a special dig, as Daz found his first gold - a wedding ring identified from the hallmark as being from 1943. He forgot to do the gold dance, so this will be expected at the next club dig! Congratulations Daz!
Onto the poll for Dig of the Day!
Alongside Daz’s gold ring were Jo’s Edward IV noble coin weight, Tom’s Roman coin, Colin’s Roman fastener, Chris’s hammered Edward III & Sarah’s brooch. Quite a list for members to choose from. One nomination for Deb’s cake was deemed ineligible!
In joint 5th place were Colin’s Roman fastener
And Chris’s hammered Edward III
In 4th place was Sarah’s brooch
In 3rd place was Jo’s Edward IV noble coin weight
In 2nd place was Daz’s gold ring
But in 1st place was Tom’s Roman coin, a denarius, thought to be a septimus Severus. Congratulations Tom!
