The merry Mercians gathered before the sun reached its peak in the hope of exciting finds and for some that hope was born out in reality, with some really interesting items coming up. The digging was tough but better than expected, given the repeated heat waves.

The heat got the better of many and the numbers thinned across the day. However, those who stayed the course were rewarded: not least the detectorist who unearthed our find for the day on the way back to her car! but more on that later.

Roman coins, a pot leg, hammered coins, silver coins, tokens, a book clasp...

But there were five nominations for Find of the Day and after voting, the results were:

In fifth place was Bryn's intriguing coin token

In fourth place was Danny's lovely Roman coin

In 3rd place was Danny's amazing strap end

In second place was Amanda's beautiful Charles II

But in first place was this exquisite fibula found by Sam. Congratulations Sam!
