Our third and final visit to this wonderful farm for 2025. The digging was still good, in spite of another heatwave, thanks to the soft sand on these stubble fields. Three large fields to choose from and lots of finds but we flagged in the heat and many of us didn’t last until 4pm. As Deb wasn’t able to make this dig, others stepped up and brought a variety of scrummy cakes - thanks to Leon, Greg’s wife & Ian’s nephew. Deb, you’ve set a tradition! Your position as ‘Queen of the Cakes’ is safe, though.

We are very much looking forward to returning to this farm in 2026 - thanks to the lovely farmer for accommodating us!

There were many lovely and varied finds, and this can be seen in the variety in the list our members chose to nominate for Find of the Week. Of particular note, was Sarah’s flint arrowhead - not the usual, ancient artefact to show up on our digs!

The members voted and the result was:

In joint third place:

Leon’s exquisite fibula

And this wonderful cast lead head found by Tom

In second place was that beautiful flint arrowhead from Sarah

But, with a significant majority, was this exquisite silver denarius found by Bob. We were all blown away by its immaculate condition. Congratulations Bob!
