Worcestershire-Shropshire border 26th April

This was a surprise extra dig on a new farm, so we had two digs in one weekend but it was too good an opportunity to miss. Around 25 Mercians managed to make it along and while the dig started slowly and we were beginning to think there were going to be no finds, as time went on some interesting little treasures emerged. 

On any other dig, the finds in 2nd and 3rd place might have won Find of the Day but an unusual item won the members’ vote, albeit not the finder’s heart, given its slightly macabre nature! 

In 3rd place was John’s miniature green man 

In 2nd place was Heath’s medieval seal ring 

But the clear winner was Leon’s Victorian memento mori! He gifted it to the farmers who were as enamoured of it as the rest of us on the dig, even if Leon himself found it a little spooky!
